Frequently Asked Questions
What is Coaching?
Coaching is a unique client-professional relationship in which clients set their own goals and actions and coaches support them in doing so. Rather than telling the client what to do, coaches primarily ask questions to help the client evaluate all opportunities. Then coaches support the client in developing an action plan and following through on the plan.
According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF), coaching is “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to be their best personal and professional selves… A good coach creates a safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore solutions, push past limitations, and hold yourself accountable.”
Will a Coach Tell Me What to Do?
No! You are the captain and the coach is the copilot. A coach’s primary tool is asking questions to help clients arrive at their own goals, process, and results. This is critical, because the client must feel ownership of all of those elements.
If you do want advice, that is more of a mentoring relationship. A coach can temporarily switch to a mentoring mode as long as it is made clear to the client.
What Makes You Qualified to Be a Coach?
I am a Certified Professional Coach (CPC), a certification I earned after graduating from a course accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF). This is the most recognized and respected body in the world when it comes to coaching.
I have widely varied experience in academia, industry, flying as an airline pilot, starting businesses, and developing myself spiritually. Although I do not impose my experience on clients by saying things like, “When I did this…,” my diverse experience does help me ask the right questions so you can get to the right answers.

Is Coaching Right for Me?
If you feel like you need to define clear goals, or you have a clear goal but feel stuck on what actions to take, or need someone to hold you accountable in the most gentle and loyal way possible, a coach will definitely make a difference!
Is Coaching Worth It?
Simply put, coaching is life-changing. Time invested in the wrong activities is an irreversible waste. Think about the difference between surviving vs. thriving. Between meandering vs. fulfilling your purpose. If that difference is worth more than a few hundred dollars to you, then coaching is worth it!
